A Master Chorale Pops Concert
Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 7PM
at St. John’s Lutheran Church,
4500 Buena Vista Rd, Bakersfield
Greetings to all from the Bakersfield Master Chorale. We wanted to let you know that we will be having open rehearsals to welcome new folks to our group on January 9th and 16th, 2018 at the Blue Chapel of the First Assembly of God 4901 California Ave., Bakersfield, CA. We would love to have all interested parties take this opportunity to join us and get involved with our group. We meet for rehearsals at the First Assembly of God church at 4901 California Ave, Bakersfield, CA from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM each Tuesday.
The open rehearsal is a chance for people who would like to investigate the possibility of joining to sing with the Chorale, meet some of the members, and see what a rehearsal is like. There is no obligation. If you decide you want to join, auditions will be held immediately after the rehearsals. If you decide the Chorale isn’t for you, you can leave without auditioning. Auditions generally last about five minutes and do not require any special preparation. You do not need to have something prepared to perform.
We currently have two openings in our Young Artist Development Program and will have additional information on our website soon. www.BakersfieldMasterChorale.org
We look forward to seeing you at our open rehearsals and are excited to welcome all those who have a love for music and bringing the arts to our community!
Bakersfield Master Chorale’s Young Artist Development Program participants Karissa Lystrup – accompanist, Melissa Nixon – conductor, and Elizabeth Provencio – conductor, put the Chorale through their paces on Tuesday night rehearsing the Requiem of W.A. Mozart, while exploring romantic and historically-informed approaches to the work. All three of these outstanding young artists did a wonderful job maneuvering the intricate passages with grace and confidence. The Chorale will be the guest artist of the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra at their next concert, November 14th, performing Mozart’s Requiem. For more information and tickets, visit bsonow.org.
And here we see Young Artist Development participant Tori Carrillo warming up the Bakersfield Master Chorale at the most recent rehearsal.
The Public Rehearsal concept is intended to make classical music more accessible to young people and those interested in the processes of preparation for performance, without the formal trappings of traditional concert etiquette. Our first Public Rehearsal was held on Saturday, March 7, at a very low price, $10 for all seats. The public was invited to attend the Bakersfield Master Chorale’s final dress rehearsal as we prepared the famous piano variations on “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for solo piano, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” for strings and the glorious and timeless Requiem by W.A. Mozart. The Director and featured soloists provided insights into the music and welcomed the audience into the process of putting the finishing touches on our more formal evening concert in an informal and open atmosphere.
